PARISH COUNCIL’S SPENDING ACTIVITIES- continued
Community and Social activities continue to thrive year on year. The Parish Council has supported the monthly Residents’ lunches since 2010 providing a subsidy for each lunch. In 2014, a Film Club was established and a subsidy is provided by the Parish Council to cover the cost of the annual licence required to show films in a public place. The night provides a showing of a popular film free to residents with a raffle held at the interval to support the cost of the licence. If you have never attended a Film Night or partaken of the wonderful lunch provided at the Hatton why not give it a try.
Two village trips have been organised this year. In November, 36 residents went to the Manchester Christmas Markets and then in February a theatre trip to Shrek the Musical took place. Both were thoroughly enjoyed and the coach journeys gave villagers an opportunity to chat and relax in each other’s company.
Every year we try to provide our young villagers with a variety of opportunities to have fun and create their own memories of being brought up in our lovely village. The annual Fun Day held in July was a roaring success. Children were queuing to take part in all the games and returned again and again to try to win a coveted prize. The adults ran out of steam before the children who would have continued well into the evening if we had not declared the games closed until next year. Thanks to Gina and Mark for allowing us to use the Beer Garden. Halloween at the end of October was a huge and scary success. Over thirty children took the village hostage for the night and then enjoyed sharing their spoils, eating hotdogs and playing games under the garden lights at Branscombe (thanks again to Ian and Sylvia). Carol Singing this year was extended to include Hatton Lane and the festive season got off to a positive start with the switching on of the lights on the Christmas Tree.
A new event held for the first time this year was an Easter Animal Hunt looking for items placed in gardens by residents of Gosling Close and Goose Lane. The children had a great time but the number of stone geese that are present on people’s doorsteps and in gardens did cause enough confusion to have parents and children tracking back and forth. Mummy and Bunny were the last to be found but then they were on a garage roof!! It is planned to hold this event again next year.
This edition of our newsletter highlights other planned activities and the Parish Council hopes that there will be something to interest all our residents. Let us know via the website email if you have any ideas of activities that villagers might wish to take part in. Social and Community activities have cost nearly £1300 this year.
